Week 2

Another Brilliant Week in Year 1!

We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 1!

In Writing, we used adjectives to describe the characters from Old Bear and practised adding s and es to make plurals. We then used our new vocabulary to write descriptive sentences. We also completed our first independent write, and we were incredibly impressed by everyone’s fantastic effort!

In Maths, we counted objects, including objects within a larger group, and represented numbers using tens frames. We practised recognising numbers written as words and counting on from any given number.

In Geography, we went outside to observe our immediate environment. We spotted lots of different features, including houses, roads, trees, our playground and the school building. We also explored our surroundings in Science, using a checklist to identify signs of autumn and learning about the changes that happen during this season.

In PE, we developed our balancing skills and practised throwing and catching a ball using an underarm throw. In Computing, we learned about the different parts of a desktop computer and practised using a mouse to click, drag and drop.

During Class Worship, we used our hand prayers to think about different people we would like to pray for. We then shared our prayers in small groups. In PSHE, we discussed why classroom rules are important and created our own rules to help make Year 1 a happy and safe place to learn.

In RE, we learned about Harvest and why it is important to Christians. We talked about our favourite foods and explored how farmers harvest wheat, which can then be used to make bread.

In Art, we looked closely at the sculpture Other by Samantha Stephenson. Inspired by her work, we created our own paper sculptures using scissors, glue and a range of rolling techniques.

It has been another wonderful week. Everyone has continued to show such a positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning. We are very proud of you all!

Week 1 

A Fantastic First Week in Year 1!

What an amazing start we have had in Year 1! We have been so impressed by everyone’s positive behaviour, enthusiasm and wonderful attitude towards learning.

In Maths, we have been counting, practising our number formation and sorting objects in different ways. In Writing, we began our exciting new unit based on Old Bear. We explored new vocabulary and used it to write simple sentences.

During PE, we developed our movement and fundamental skills through a range of fun activities. In Science, we began learning about the seasons. We found out which month and season we were born in and looked for signs that autumn is beginning.

We also enjoyed our first Music lesson with Mr Richards, where we were introduced to the ukuleles! In Computing, we sorted objects into those that are and are not examples of technology. We learned that technology is made by humans to help us.

We are incredibly proud of how well everyone has settled into Year 1 and cannot wait for another exciting week of learning.
