Week 2

This Week in Year 5

It has been another busy week of learning in our classroom!

✍️ Writing

In Writing, we explored our text further and focused on writing setting descriptions. We thought carefully about how we could describe a setting and develop our ideas through our writing.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we explored numbers up to 1 million. We also thought about what happens to numbers when we multiply by 10, 100 and 1,000, developing our understanding of how the digits change.

🌍 Geography

In Geography, we explored Europe and found out about the capital cities of different European countries.

📖 RE

In RE, we asked questions about holy books. We explored the questions we have about them and considered what we would like to find out.

💻 Computing

In Computing, we explored computer systems and how we can use them in the home to help us save time. We focused on the idea of input, process and output and how these work together in computer systems.

🎵 Music

In Music, we explored rhythm. We practised clapping rhythms and worked on listening carefully before clapping rhythms back.

🔬 Science

In Science, we took part in forces stations, exploring different activities and thinking about what happened at each station.

⚽ PE

In PE, we worked on moving on the balls of our feet so that we could anticipate an invading player and respond quickly.

Week 1

What a Wonderful First Week Back! 🌟

What an amazing first week back we have had! It has been such a lovely start to the year, and I feel incredibly blessed to be the teacher of this wonderful class. Everyone has settled in so beautifully, and it has been a real pleasure watching the children get to know their new routines, reconnect with one another and throw themselves into their learning.

Our first day back was very exciting! We spent time getting to know our new routines and expectations, and the children did a fantastic job of adapting to them. We also enjoyed playing some games together and getting to know each other, as well as designing our very own ideal robot. It was a brilliant first day, and I was so pleased with how settled and ready to learn everyone was.

📚 Writing

In Writing, we have started our new text, FArTHEr. We began by making predictions and exploring the images from the text, thinking carefully about what they might tell us and what we could infer. We have also started learning about personification and how we can use it in our writing. It has been wonderful to see the children beginning to explore language in new ways and develop their ideas.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been tackling Roman numerals, working all the way up to 1,000! The children have worked hard to understand how Roman numerals work and have really risen to the challenge. It is safe to say that we have conquered Roman numerals this week!

🎨 Art

Our Art learning has involved creating an installations front page, where the children have been documenting their thoughts and responses to a variety of artworks. It has been lovely to see them taking time to consider different pieces of art and record their ideas.

🇫🇷 French

In French, we have begun learning the French alphabet. We have made a start on becoming familiar with the letters and their sounds, and we are looking forward to continuing to build our French knowledge.

💻 Computing

In Computing, we have been focusing on online safety. The children created posters to document important online safety rules, giving them an opportunity to think about how we can stay safe and make sensible choices when using technology.

Overall, it has been an absolutely fantastic first week. I am so proud of how beautifully the children have settled, embraced their new routines and approached their learning. It has been a wonderful start, and I am already so excited to see what the rest of the year will bring! 💛
