MFL Intent
Learning Modern Foreign languages (MFL) gives children the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the world around them by being exposed to other cultures. In addition to this, it also allows children to be
able to communicate with others. At Hoddlesden St Paul’s, we aim to provide all children with a high quality MFL curriculum that will enable them to develop their skills in order to be able to communicate effectively for practical purposes and express themselves in the language.
The aims of teaching modern foreign languages at our school are:
→ To foster an interest and enthusiasm for MFL learning.
→ To encourage children to have a positive attitude and confidence towards MFL learning within a supportive
environment.
→ To help children develop an awareness and appreciation of other cultures.
→ To support oracy and literacy, particularly developing speaking and listening skills.
→ To provide opportunities to use the language for practical and meaningful purposes.
→ To lay the foundations for future language study.
